School closed after sickness bug

A primary school in South Gloucestershire was closed on Friday to carry out a deep clean after 80 pupils fell ill.

One in four children and several staff were sent home from Bailey's Court primary school after a vomiting and flu-like bug swept through the school.

The head teacher said a deep clean was the only way to stop the virus spreading.

Classes will resume on Monday at the community school in Bradley Stoke.

In a statement on the school's website it said the closure decision was made in order to contain the outbreak and avoid further infection.

"Over the weekend the school will be thoroughly cleaned and we expect to open on Monday for service as usual."
