Police link sex attacks in city

Cotham attack
Five women have now been attacked in the city recently

Police in Bristol are linking five sex attacks which have taken place in the city in the last month.

The latest assault happened at 0330 GMT on Friday at Hampton Park in the Cotham area of the city.

The road was sealed off to drivers while a forensic examination of the area took place.

Four other women have been attacked in Whiteladies Road, Alma Road and the Downs area of the city. Police are urging women to walk in well-lit areas.

In each case solitary women have been approached by a white man in his early 20s, who indecently assaulted them.

Police have now stepped up patrols in the area and officers will offering safety advice to young women on Friday evening.

On Friday, Superintendent Ian Wylie of Avon and Somerset Police, said: "The most recent attack took place in the early hours of this morning.

"That's now what we believe to be the fifth such offence. We've got a large team of officers involved in the investigation into those offences.

The chances of anyone being a victim of this kind of assault remain very rare."

Supt Wylie added he was "confident" the sex attacker would be caught.
