Student 'crashed car into steps'

A Bristol University student has pleaded guilty to drink-driving after crashing his car in the grounds of Wills Hall campus.

Alex Fiallos had been drinking with friends before returning in a taxi. He told Bristol magistrates he decided to move the car to stop it being clamped.

The 18-year-old then drove across the campus until he crashed into a flight of steps, the court was told.

Fiallos was fined 115 and banned from driving for 12 months.

'Muddy grounds'

The former Harrow schoolboy had driven the four-year old car back from his parents' home in Ealing, London, and then went out drinking with friends in Clifton before returning to halls in a taxi.

The court was told Fiallos drove the Mini with a friend in the passenger seat across the muddy grounds and paths at around 30mph until the front tyres blew and he crashed facing a steep flight of steps, wrecking the front of the car.

A police helicopter, six security guards and two patrol cars were called to the scene and arrested Fiallos for drink-driving.

Fiallos was also told to pay 50 costs.
