A nightclub bouncer was remanded in custody accused of the manslaughter of a construction worker who died from a punch to the head.

Mohammed Waqar appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Friday over the death of Simon Bampton, 28, who was assaulted in Bristol last August.

Mr Bampton, from Southampton, suffered a brain haemorrhage in the attack.

Two men who were previously arrested have been discharged. Mr Waqar, 21, will reappear in court soon.

Mr Bampton had been walking through Bristol city centre with a colleague after a night out drinking when he was involved in a dispute.

Mr Waqar, of Stratford Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham, was arrested on Thursday.
