Man with serious head injury dies

Marsh Street in Bristol
Police have appealed for the car driver to come forward

A man who suffered serious head injuries after being punched by a man in Bristol has died in hospital.

Police said two men were walking along Marsh Street in the city centre when they were involved in an altercation.

A man got out of a car and punched the 28-year-old from Southampton, to the ground, causing him to hit his head.

Marsh Street remains closed while forensics officers make a close examination of the scene. An appeal for witnesses has been made.

Det Supt Andy Williams said: "I am urging the person responsible for this offence to come forward.

"This may have been a spur-of-the-moment action and it is very possible that they did not realise the seriousness of the assault at the time.

"Therefore I am appealing to their conscience today to contact us immediately."
