Wrong-way motorway driver crashes

A man drove the wrong way down the M48 and crashed into a motorcyclist.

It is believed the 73-year-old driver had made a right turn from a motorway slip road near the old Severn Bridge.

He then drove his Skoda Fabia along the M48 and onto the M4 where the collision happened between junctions 19 and 20, near Bristol, on Wednesday.

The rider of the Harley Davidson suffered serious leg injuries and the Skoda driver was arrested.

He has since been released on bail.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the events before the crash, which happened just before midnight on Wednesday.

It is believed the motorist came down the eastbound slip road from the Avonmouth road (A403) and made a right turn down the westbound carriageway.
