Bristol's newest bridge has been lowered into position over the floating harbour at Temple Quay by one of the largest mobile cranes in Britain.

The £2.4m bridge weighs 75 tonnes, spans 55m (180ft) and will link the city centre to Temple Meads station for pedestrians and cyclists.

The stainless steel bridge was commissioned as a work of art and will be illuminated at night.

It is expected to open on 20 August after safety checks.

Magella Lynch, project director for the developers Castlemore Securities, said: "It all went to plan - like clockwork.

"It was lifted into position just as we wanted it. It looks marvellous. I think it looks phenomenal.

"It's a beautiful piece of public art that we provided for Bristol and the general public can use it."
