Man critically ill after assault

A man is critically ill in hospital in North Somerset after being assaulted.

Police were called to investigate the assault at a property in Walliscote Grove Road, Weston-super-Mare, shortly before 2200 BST on Tuesday.

The injured man, aged in his 40s, was taken to the town's general hospital for treatment.

A local man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody for questioning.
