Vocal surgery technique showcased
A medical technique to repair damaged vocal chords, pioneered in Bristol, is proving popular among patients.

Patients have to speak during the procedure - known as Gortex Medicalisation - to make sure vocal chords are being moved correctly.

The vocal chords are pulled into the correct position using soft Gortex.

A paper is soon to be published showing high satisfaction levels amongst patients attending Southmead Hospital for the operation.

In the past, patients had to be put under a general anaesthetic while their vocal chords were operated on.
