Work closes parts of city centre
Work at Cabot Circus
The centre could open in September
Parts of Bristol city centre are closed to traffic over the weekend as a huge crane is erected to work on the new shopping centre, Cabot Circus.

The tower crane will close Bond Street until Monday at 0600 GMT.

The 500-tonne machinery will be used to install six remaining sections of a footbridge, each weighing 23 tonnes.

Ray Brown, from the centre, said: "Lifting these materials into place is a complex procedure that necessitates the closure to ensure safety."

He added that a diversion would be in place taking motorists off the M32 at junction 2, along Easton Way to the Old Market Roundabout, where the route will re-join Bond Street.

The date of the official opening for Cabot Circus has been pencilled in for 25 September, although this is subject to change.
