Star chef swaps court for cooker
James Nathan
James Nathan hopes to find a job at a restaurant
An ex-barrister has been named this year's BBC2 MasterChef.

Bristol-based James Nathan beat finalists Emily Ludolf and Jonny Stevenson to the cooking crown.

The 34-year-old gave up law to pursue a passion for cooking and, after six weeks of preliminary heats, now hopes to land a job at a top restaurant.

He won the judges over with his main course of pickled red cabbage and venison infused with lapsang souchong tea and served with roast potatoes.

Nerve-wracking

This was followed by a chocolate and orange pudding.

He said: "This has been my springboard to the catering world. I want to get a job in one of the best kitchens and ultimately open my own restaurant.

"Winning MasterChef has completely changed the shape of my life.

"It was probably the most nerve-wracking but exhilarating experience that I have ever had or am ever likely to have."

Presenter Gregg Wallace said: "James is the most driven, focused and talented amateur cook it has been my pleasure to observe."
