Police on the M4 near Bristol stopped 140 vehicles and made six arrests as part of a clampdown on criminals and illegal visitors to Britain.
The operation at Tormarton used an automatic number plate recognition system.
During Friday's operation people were arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs, driving while disqualified and being wanted on warrant.
Ten uninsured vehicles were seized and removed from the road.
Additionally, seven untaxed vehicles were clamped by the DVLA and seven overweight goods vehicles were detected.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "This was the fifth operation held under the Operation Utah banner.
"The first was held in July this year when more than 110 vehicles were stopped, 11 people arrested and 19 vehicles seized as part of a special operation."
Police from Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Police forces co-operated with licensing authorities as part of the operation.
