Hike planned in parking charges

The cost of long-stay car parking in council-run car parks in Bristol could rise by 25% if the city's cabinet vote it through.

The proposal, due to be discussed on Thursday, is part of a strategy to discourage all day parking and encourage use of park-and-rides.

Charges for eight hours could be raised from £4 to £5, and from £8 to £10 for more than eight hours.

Even at the new rates the council said it was cheaper than some competitors.
