Risks 'too high' for flower show
The Bristol flower show has been cancelled after concerns waterlogged ground could pose a health and safety risk for visitors and exhibitors.

Show organisers said they were also mindful of financial and operational difficulties experienced by events which have gone ahead in bad weather.

The Lord Mayor, Cllr Royston Griffey, said it was "extremely regrettable" the show has had to be cancelled.

"Expert advice is absolutely clear - the risks are too great," he said.

Ticket refunds

"It is best to make a decision now and let exhibitors and those planning to travel to the show know exactly where they stand so they can change their arrangements," he added.

The show was due to be staged at Durdham Down on 17, 18 and 19 August, and this year's event would have been the 63rd.

Tickets already purchased will be refunded by returning them to the ticket office.

Earlier this month the company behind the Ashton Court Festival in Bristol said it was talking to insolvency practitioners with a view to liquidating the company.

Poor weather meant the second day of the two-day event was cancelled this year, leaving an unsustainable financial loss.
