Lorry hit and reversed over woman
Scene of the accident in Bristol
Police are investigating the incident
An elderly woman has been knocked down by a recycling lorry which then reversed over her in Bristol.

People in Briar Way, Fishponds, shouted warnings the woman was behind the lorry but the driver appeared not to hear.

The woman, who is believed to be in her 70s, is currently in hospital in a stable condition awaiting surgery.

The accident happened just after 1200 BST on Tuesday. The company which owns the recycling truck, ECT, said it was investigating the incident.

A police investigation has also begun and the vehicle's brakes will be checked.

In a statement ECT said it placed a very high priority on health and safety, and was mounting its own investigation.

It said the company was fully co-operating with the police inquiries into the incident.
