WWII mortar bombs are detonated
Explosion
People living nearby where told to expect a large bang
More than 250 World War II mortar bombs found on derelict land in South Gloucestershire have been blown up.

Bomb disposal experts were called to a site near Cattybrook Road, Shortwood, on Wednesday morning when workmen unearthed about 15 of the devices.

After a search of the area hundreds more bombs were found. Major Kevin Grantham told the BBC it was unusual to find so many in one place.

Four nearby houses were evacuated when the blasts were carried out.

People living in the area had been warned to expect a large bang when the devices are detonated in a quarry on Thursday morning.
