A Bristol man had to "jump for his life" after the bus he was travelling in crashed into another vehicle.

The First Group Bus from Cadbury Heath to the city centre crashed into a road maintenance vehicle during Thursday morning's rush hour.

John Sealey was sitting upstairs at the front above the driver's cabin when the accident happened.

A First spokesman said: "We have begun an inquiry into the accident in Hanham this morning."

Mr Sealey told the BBC: "I was sat upstairs at the front, above the driver's cabin. I had to literally jump and run for my life, when the driver collided with a road-scraping vehicle."

The First spokesman added: "A double decker on Service 44 between Cherry Gardens and the city centre was involved in a collision with the jib of a road planning vehicle which was being driven in front of the bus.

"Although no one was hurt, passengers and the driver were understandably shocked. First regards this as a very serious incident and will be co-operating fully with any police investigation."
