An outbreak of a potentially fatal disease among dogs in Bristol has prompted a plea to owners to keep up to date with their pet's vaccinations.
Five dogs have been admitted with canine parvo virus to the RSPCA Bristol Clinic in St Philips in the last month.
Vets at the nearby PDSA Clinic have also reported a significant rise in cases of the illness.
The virus causes vomiting and diarrhoea in dogs and can occasionally damage the heart muscle.
Senior Veterinary Surgeon Damian Pacini said: "People often get a new puppy but then fail to get it vaccinated - usually at eight weeks old.
"Come the summer, when dogs are spending more time on walks and outdoors, we see a rise in parvo in these unvaccinated animals.
Vaccinations costs £30 to £50, but treatment for the illness can run into many hundreds of pounds.
Mr Pacini added: "Not vaccinating is a false economy and is neglectful."
