Police crack down on bail jumpers

The blitz is part of the force's Operation Relentless campaign
Hundreds of police officers are patrolling the Avon and Somerset force area hunting down alleged bail jumpers.

Those named on outstanding court warrants and those who have failed to answer police bail are being targeted.

It is the latest stage in Operation Relentless - the force's ongoing campaign against crime.

Chief Constable Colin Port said: "Our plan is to catch as many as possible and put them before the courts so justice can be served."

During two previous operations, more than 500 people were arrested.

"It is important to stress that days such as this are not instead of normal police action - they are in addition to it," said Mr Port.
