Gay couples can set 'wedding' day
Gay couples who want to take part in civil partnership ceremonies in Bristol will be able set the date for their "wedding" day from Monday.

New laws mean that from December this year, same-sex couples will be able to enter into a legally-recognised union.

People who choose to take part in such a ceremony will enjoy the same rights as married couples.

Couples will be able to have their ceremony at any licensed marriage venue in Bristol from 21 December.

From Monday, people interested in a civil partnership can book to see the registrar on 5 December, and sign the register 15 days later.

Councillor Gary Hopkins said: "This is great news for anyone wishing to have their relationship legally recognised.

"Same-sex couples in long-term relationships have waited too long to enjoy the same rights and responsibilities as married people."
