'Good result' for knives amnesty
Knives
Knives can be left anonymously
Up to 80 weapons have been handed in to Bath Police during the first week of a knife amnesty.

The campaign was launched in response to isolated incidents of young people carrying the weapons, said officers.

Assorted knives and bladed items were deposited in a collection bin at Bath police station, which is open all day.

The majority were kitchen or catering knives but there were also "meat hooks, a wallpaper scraper and a number of machete-type knives".

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said officers were collating intelligence in relation to knives.

"They will be carrying out stop searches and anyone found to be carrying a knife will be arrested and prosecuted," he said.

"Anyone who has a knife is urged to come directly to the police station and deposit it in the amnesty bin. They will be able to deposit knives safely and anonymously."
