Staff walk out in postal dispute
Sorting office
The day-long strike was voted for in a recent ballot
Postal workers at a Bristol delivery office are holding a one-day strike in a dispute over overtime.

Members of the Communication Workers' Union (CWU) at the Royal Mail depot in the Easton area of the city abandoned all deliveries on Monday.

They voted for the strike in a ballot two weeks ago after their contractual overtime was cut.

Royal Mail said it could not justify the normal scheduled overtime as there was less post in the summer months.

The CWU warned the strike could cause major disruption to deliveries and collections in the Easton, Fishponds and Lawrence Hill areas of Bristol.

But Royal Mail has attempted to limit the impact of the walk-out by drafting in managers from other areas to cover the affected shifts.

The union has threatened further strike action if the dispute is not resolved.
