Owners of mobile equipment - such as phones and laptop computers - are being urged to sign up to a new web database.
The Mobile Equipment National Database allows people to register contact information and equipment details.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, more than 2,000 mobile devices are stolen in the country each day.
Sgt Caroline Howard said: "This initiative will assist in the recovery of lost or stolen mobile phones and electrical equipment."
