Sprout city blows off competition
Bristol is the sprout-eating capital of Britain for the second year in a row, according to new figures.

The city managed to trump its nearest competitor, Norwich, with a store's shoppers buying an average of 80,398 sprouts a week over the 12 months.

Norwich was blown away selling a miserly 69,207 a week, followed by Eastleigh in Hampshire with 62,317.

Bottom of the list was Walthamstow in east London, which sold just 5,476 sprouts a week at its Asda supermarket.

Sprout supremacy top 10
1. Longwell Green (Bristol) 80,398
2. Norwich 69,207
3. Eastleigh (Hampshire) 62,317
4. Havant (Hampshire) 58,166
5. West Bridgford (Nottingham) 57,319
6. Wakefield 56,551
7. Taunton (Somerset) 55,684
8. Minworth 53,749
9. Derby 53,257
10. Gloucester 53,252
Asda analysed sales data from across the year. It eventually found that its Longwell Green store in Bristol sold more of the much-maligned vegetables than anywhere else.

The humble green is the staple vegetable on many a Christmas dinner table, and has been linked to the fight against colon cancer.
