Force to get new chief constable
Colin Port
Mr Port takes over from the present Chief Constable Steve Pilkington
The new Chief Constable of Avon and Somerset Police is to be Colin Port, who is currently deputy Chief Constable of Norfolk Constabulary.

Mr Port takes over from the present Chief Constable Steve Pilkington who is leaving after Christmas.

It is anticipated Mr Port will take up his post in the New Year although no official start date has been given.

A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset police authority said she was "delighted" with Mr Port's appointment.

She added: "We had a high-calibre shortlist and it was a difficult decision to make.

"But we are satisfied we appointed the right person to lead the force in the future."
