A new satellite town near Shanghai, China, is to be partially based on several English towns including areas of Bristol and Birmingham.
Thames Town has taken its inspiration from UK cities
"Thames Town" could include areas inspired by Bristol's harbourside and Brindley Place in Birmingham.
The Bristol offices engineering firm Atkins has been involved in the project since 2002, and contributed to the "master plan" for the town.
The development is one of eleven new urban areas being built near Shanghai.
During the design process, engineers from China have visited the UK to study buildings.
Other sources of inspiration included Bristol's Christchurch and buildings at the Prince of Wales' development at Poundbury, Dorset.
Final planning for Thames Town is due to be completed by 2005.
