City gets 400 new nursery places

New places in: Ashley, Avonmouth, Bishopsworth, Broomhill, Easton, Filwood, Harcliffe, Henbury, Hillfields, Lawrence Hill, Southmead, Whitchurch Park, Windmill Hill
More than 400 new nursery places have been created in Bristol in deprived areas such as Easton and Hartcliffe.

The New Opportunities Fund contributed £1m, while the Department for Skills and Education added £2.5m.

The project will see two new nurseries built in Brentry Primary School and on recreation land in Hillfields, with several others refurbished.

Councillor Peter Abraham said: "The council is committed to helping parents access work and training."

Councillor Claire Cook, who chairs the Bristol Early Years and Childcare Partnership added: "These places will make a real difference to the lives of parents across the city."
