Ex-call girl elected to council
Sandra Hobson
Sandra Hobson will serve on South Gloucestershire Council
A former prostitute has been elected as a Liberal Democrat councillor.

Sandra Hobson, of Stanshaws Close, Bradley Stoke, near Bristol, was voted on to South Gloucestershire District Council.

The 62-year-old, beat closest rival, Conservative candidate David Hart, by 29 votes to be elected councillor for Bradley Stoke's Baileys Court ward.

Mrs Hobson hit the headlines in 1998 when her profession was exposed on a television show.

The Liberal Democrat Constituency Association for the area backed Mrs Hobson as a candidate.

'Valuable service'

They said she had "turned her life around" following a serious illness.

Mrs Hobson already serves on Bradley Stoke's town council, is chairman of the town's Twinning Association and a primary school governor.

The new councillor, who was unavailable for comment on Friday, has never made a secret of the fact that she was a prostitute.

She previously said she was doing nothing illegal and was providing a "valuable service".

The council said it had no comment to make on Mrs Hobson's election apart from confirming the result of the vote.

The seat was vacant following the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Mike Collins.
