A man arrested in connection with a shooting outside a Bradford curry house has been released without charge.

A 33-year-old man remains in a stable condition in hospital after being shot in Leeds Road early on Saturday.

West Yorkshire Police said he was shot when he and three friends were robbed as they left the restaurant.

Police urged anyone who saw the getaway car, a black VW Golf R32, which was a hire car, in the hours before the shooting to contact them.

Det Insp Steve Snow said he believed the motive for the shooting was robbery.

The victim was leaving the restaurant with another man and two women when the group was approached by two men asking for money.

Club shooting

The group handed over cash but the victim was shot by one of the men when he asked for it back, police said.

The robbers left the scene in the Golf, an R32 model with a 58-registration. A third man is believed to have been driving the car.

Mr Snow said: "[The car] has been recovered and it's now known that it is a hire car.

"The legitimate owners have been traced and we are satisfied that they are not involved in this incident.

"We need to speak to anyone who knows who was driving the car, who saw the car being driven around on Saturday evening or who knows where it may have been kept before the shooting."

Police said the incident was not linked to a second shooting at the Cube night club on Ivegate in Bradford in which two men suffered minor injuries.

A clubber, who was removed from the venue by door staff, returned later with a shotgun and fired the weapon.

The suspect was an Asian man in his early 20s, 5ft 10in tall and slim. He was wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans.
