Arrests over wrong-way M1 pursuit

Three people have been arrested after a pick-up vehicle was driven the wrong way on the M1 during a police pursuit.

Police began following the Mitsubishi L200 after seeing it speeding in Morley, West Yorkshire on Sunday night.

It was driven on the wrong side of the A653, the wrong way up the M62 exit slip road and onto the M62 eastbound.

It then joined the M1 northbound, where it did a U-turn and drove south on the wrong carriageway before being abandoned at the M1/M62 intersection.

West Yorkshire Police said that during the pursuit on the M1 a traffic unit was rammed as it tried to prevent the pick-up doing a U-turn. The vehicle was also being followed by the force helicopter.

An 18-year-old man from Morley was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, criminal damage, and for failing to appear at court.

Two women, aged 18 and 21, have also been arrested.
