Lindsay Rimer had gone out to buy cereal when she went missing

Police have made a fresh appeal for information about a murder on the 15th anniversary of the disappearance of a West Yorkshire schoolgirl.

Thirteen-year-old Lindsay Rimer never returned after she left her home in Hebden Bridge on 7 November 1994 to go to the shops for cereal.

Her body was discovered in a local canal five months later.

West Yorkshire Police have appealed for anyone who "has harboured a suspicion for all these years" to come forward.

Despite high levels of media coverage at the time of the murder Lindsay's killer has never been found.

Body weighted down

Police said they had spoken to more than 5,000 people since the death and taken hundreds of statements.

The senior investigating officer now in charge of the investigation, Det Supt Colin Prime, said "I firmly believe that someone, somewhere could hold vital information that would lead us to the killer.

Mr Prime added: "It may be that someone has harboured a suspicion for all these years.

"With the passage of time, someone who was unable to come forward and speak to us more than a decade ago might be in a position to do so now. I would strongly urge them to get in touch."

Lindsay left her home in Cambridge Street at around 2200 BST and was filmed on CCTV at the Spar supermarket at 2222 BST buying cornflakes.

Officers also know that Lindsay visited the Trades Club in Home Street on her way to the shop.

Her body, which had been weighted down with a stone, was later recovered from Rochdale Canal, about one mile upstream from Hebden Bridge town centre.
