Chemical firm announces job cuts

About 150 jobs are to be lost from a chemical plant in Bradford after it was taken over by another firm.

Talks are being held with staff at BASF's Low Moor site which was previously owned by Ciba.

The company, which manufactures water treatment chemicals, currently employs around 830 people in Bradford.

A BASF spokesman said some research posts were being transferred to Germany. Other jobs will be lost in manufacturing and administration.

He said the job losses were part of the firm's restructuring plans, which will result in 3,700 positions being axed worldwide.

BASF acquired Ciba in April.
