A residential street in Wakefield is to get better protection from the risk of future flooding.

Rufford Street, which is near Alverthorpe Beck, was turned into a river by heavy downpours in 2007.

The council has secured an £85,000 grant from the Environment Agency which will be used specifically to better protect houses on Rufford Street.

The improvements are part of a series of work being carried out across the district to boost flood defences.
