Man is rescued from arson attack

Firefighters rescued a man from a burning building after arsonists struck in the early hours of Saturday.

West Yorkshire Police said emergency crews were called to the Newby Square pub in West Bowling, Bradford, after reports the building was on fire.

Crews fought their way to an upstairs room where they rescued one man who was then treated by paramedics.

Officers said extra patrols would be mounted in the area and witnesses are asked to contact police.

Det Insp Simon Bottomley, from Bradford CID, said: "An investigation is ongoing into this arson attack.

"We are keeping an open mind as to the motive behind it.

"Neighbourhood Policing Team officers will be carrying out extra patrols in the area to provide reassurance for the community."
