A fatal shooting at a nightclub in the early hours of Sunday was "a brutal attack on a defenceless family man", police said.

Damian Gordon, a 30-year-old father-of-one, was shot either in the entrance to, or immediately outside, the Icon nightclub in Bradford.

Detectives have appealed to a woman - thought to be from Manchester - who rang the police to get back in touch.

Mr Gordon was shot at the premises on Westgate early on Sunday.

Det Supt Paul Taylor, who is leading the murder inquiry, said detectives did not have a motive for the killing so far.

But the senior officer said there was a possible connection with Manchester after the mystery woman made an anonymous call to his team.

He said: "We believe that woman is from the Manchester area.

"She gave us very very specific information which we believe is very significant for this investigation.

"I would urge that woman to get back in touch with the police."

Officers said Mr Gordon, who had currently not been working, was married with a four-year-old son and lived in the Swain House area of Bradford.

Mr Gordon, who was also known as Mikey, was not known to the police, the detective said.
