Protesters 'hug' historic cinema
Bradford Odeon
The Odeon cinema closed its doors in 2000
Nearly 1,000 people have taken part in a protest to save a cinema earmarked for demolition, organisers say.

Protesters joined together around the former Odeon Cinema in Bradford to hug the 77-year-old building.

Bradford Council said restoring the building would be too costly. A new development, with offices and apartments, is planned for the site.

The Bradford Odeon Rescue Group (Borg) said the building was an iconic landmark and must be saved.

The building closed its doors seven years ago when a new Odeon cinema opened in the city.

The Hug the Odeon event was described by Borg as "a mass demonstration of public support".
