Police plan training site upgrade
West Yorkshire Police have unveiled plans for a multi-million pound extension to their force training centre in Wakefield.

The Carr Gate site is currently home to the force's helicopter, mounted section and dog units.

Under the plans, specialist facilities would be built for firearms and driver training and for officers learning how to deal with public order problems.

Residents can view the plans at mobile displays in the city next week.

Supt John Cocliff, head of the force's training, said it needed to expand its existing facilities to meet the challenges and developments of policing in the 21st Century.
