A man has died and two children have suffered serious burns in a house fire in Shipley early on Monday morning.

A woman also suffered moderate burns in the blaze in Prospect Grove, Windhill, a fire service spokesman said.

All four were taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary after being rescued from the property shortly before 0500 BST.

Police and fire service investigators said they were trying to establish the cause of the fire, which is being treated as suspicious.

Det Supt Andy Brennan said several residents had reported hearing a bang or small explosion before they saw the flames.

"We want to hear from anyone who may have seen anything or have any information about what has happened or know anyone with a grudge against this particular family," he said.

The 36-year-old man jumped out of a window to escape the flames but later died.

His 26-year-old partner and her two sons, aged six and four, are said to be in a stable and comfortable condition in hospital.
