A man has been jailed for life for murdering his "role model" girlfriend at their home in Slough.

Jane Treasure, 19, was found stabbed at the property in Ledgers Road, Chalvey, in November 2008.

At Reading Crown Court, jurors found Mario Carvalho, 26, guilty of murder. He must serve a minimum of 20 years.

He was also convicted of wounding his friend, Damien Sharpe, who was injured in a separate attack at Mr Sharpe's home after killing Ms Treasure.

Carvalho was given a life sentence on each count after a week-long trial.

Following sentencing, CPS Crown Advocate Sandra Beck said: "The defendant's relationship with his girlfriend was a volatile one.

"Their bitter arguing on 17 and 18 November resulted in the brutal death of one young lady and the serious wounding of another man.

"Carvalho showed himself to be an incredibly violent and dangerous man and I welcome the jury's verdict which will mean that he is unable to carry out further acts of violence for some considerable time."

At the time of her death, Ms Treasure's family described her as a "motivated, hard-working health care worker and student".
