Work to renew 300-year-old Thames Maidenhead Bridge

Thames Maidenhead Bridge
Work will take place at off-peak times and at night

Maintenance work will be carried out on a 300-year-old Grade 1 listed bridge in Berkshire.

Over a nine-week period from 6 April, stonework on the arches of the Thames Maidenhead Bridge will be renewed and the carriageway resurfaced.

Most of the work will be at off-peak times and at night to minimise disruption, according to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

The bridge will close for a maximum of six nights for resurfacing.

A council spokeswoman said: "The first stage of the project - to replace and strengthen the bridge arches from barges on the river - started last autumn but was suspended during the winter months and will recommence when the weather improves."

The repaving of footpaths using York stone, which has been approved by English heritage, will also be carried out over the nine-week period.
