Residents given burglary advice

Advice has been issued to householders in Berkshire to help them avoid being burgled over Christmas.

They have been advised not to put presents on display as many burglars are opportunists and will be on the look out for easy targets, police said.

Romy Freiburghaus, crime reduction adviser, said: "If you are going away over the Christmas period make sure your home looks occupied.

"Use lights on timer switches to come on during the hours of darkness."
