Five-year-old is swine flu victim

A Berkshire schoolgirl who died from swine flu was a five-year-old from Slough, it has emerged.

The girl, whose identity has not been revealed, died at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London, on 11 November.

She was in the reception class at James Elliman Primary School in Slough, the Slough Borough Council said.

NHS Berkshire East said she had tested positive for the H1N1 virus, but no details about whether she had other health problems were released.

A council spokeswoman said: "We are providing support to pupils, parents and staff during this very tragic time.

"This is a really sad and difficult time for the family and our thoughts are with them."

NHS Berkshire East has said it was working with the Thames Valley Health Protection Unit and the council to offer support and advice.
