Soldier hurt in fall from horse

A solider was airlifted to hospital after a riding accident in Berkshire.

The 22-year-old fell from his horse while training in Windsor Great Park at 0920 BST.

An off-duty fireman returning home from nightshift was first on the scene and a rapid response team alerted the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance.

Park rangers closed the road at Queens Gate to allow the helicopter to land and pick up the soldier who was taken to Wexham Park Hospital for treatment.

A spokeswoman for the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust said they were alerted by a rapid response team.

She said: "An emergency vehicle was called out and responders confirmed that the air ambulance was required to airlift a young 22-year-old soldier who had fallen from his horse."
