Airgun attack leaves pet dog dead

A dog died of his injuries after being shot in the side of the body with an airgun in Berkshire.

The owner of the 13-year-old Jack Russell found the pet lying next to the road in Vanners Lane, Enbourne, Newbury on Sunday evening.

The dog was bleeding from its side and an X-ray revealed an airgun pellet had pierced its lung.

The dog later died from its injuries. Police are appealing for information to try to catch those responsible.

Pc Christopher Eaton, of Thames Valley Police, said: "The dog was found outside its owner's home in a bad way and sadly later died.

"We have conducted a number of inquiries in the surrounding area but we still need witnesses to come forward."
