A four-month-old baby who died after being admitted to hospital had suffered a head injury, tests have revealed. Thomas Preece was taken to Reading's Royal Berkshire Hospital on Monday night, but died hours later after being transferred to hospital in Oxford. More tests to determine how Thomas, who lived with his parents in Sonning Common, received the injury could take several months, police said. His parents paid tribute to their son, saying: "Thomas was our life."

They added: "He was our pride and joy. Words cannot express the loss the whole family are feeling. "Thomas was loved so much by so many and was the best thing that happened to us. "We would like to thank all of our family and friends for all the help and support they have given us at this time." Following the baby's death in the early hours of Tuesday, an address in Sedgewell Road in Sonning Common, between Reading and Henley-on-Thames, was cordoned off. A 24-year-old man was arrested and later bailed. Social services in Oxfordshire first alerted Thames Valley Police to the boy's condition on Monday. Det Insp Kev Elkins said: "We are in the early stages of an investigation into an unexplained death of a baby in Sonning Common. "I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Thomas' family and friends and ask that the media respect their privacy at this very difficult time."
