Caroline Johnson's pelvis and lungs were crushed

A man has appeared in court charged with causing injuries to a woman whose hips were smashed and lungs crushed as her car was driven off and hit her.

Caroline Johnson, 46, was scraping ice off the vehicle before taking her son to school near their Berkshire home.

A man got into the car and drove off, severely injuring the mother-of-four.

Kevin Richardson, 33, faces charges of aggravated vehicle taking and causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. He has been remanded in custody.

Mr Richardson, of no fixed address, appeared before East Berkshire Magistrates' Court on Thursday and was remanded to appear before Reading Crown Court on 19 March 2009.

Mrs Johnson was injured on 2 December suffering a crushed pelvis and lungs and what has been described as a four-inch hole in one of her legs.

She was outside the family home in Langley, Slough, when the incident happened.

She remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
