Plea to stop dog cruelty

Animal wardens are trying to find out who has been dumping sick or dying dogs in a remote part of Berkshire.

At least five animals have been left for dead in a churchyard in Farley Hill, near Wokingham, over the past 12 to 14 months.

The cases are all being linked by Wokingham Borough Council wardens.

Steve Tulley, the new owner of one dog, said: "It's disgraceful that there are still people in our society that are prepared to abandon dogs in this way."

His dog, Amber, was feverish and uncared for when she was found abandoned a few months ago.

Her owners were incapable or unwilling to pay for veterinary care needed to control the fever. She has since recovered.

However, another of the dogs died before help arrived.

Animal warden Mandy Dorman appealed for information: "Does anyone know anything.

"Has anyone seen anyone acting suspiciously around the whole area, not just this location. Or has seen animals that aren't in very good condition and thinks that somebody else might report it," she said.
