Two die in separate road crashes

Police are investigating the deaths of two people in separate accidents in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Motorcyclist Peter Cope, 39, from Alton, died from head injuries when his bike was in collision with a car on the B3047, near the A31, at Alresford.

His motorbike collided with a Toyota car on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, an elderly woman died in hospital after her car crashed into a wall in Whitwell on the Isle of Wight on Friday afternoon.

Her blue Ford Fiesta was travelling from Godshill when it hit the wall near the junction with South Ford Road.

She suffered leg injuries and was taken to St Mary's Hospital in Newport but later transferred to Southampton General Hospital where she died.

The 46-year-old Ropley woman who collided with the motorcyclist in Alresford was treated for shock at the scene but was not taken to hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses to both accidents.
