Station unveils new rental bikes

OYBike users pay an annual charge of £10

A new cycle rental system has been installed at a Berkshire train station.

It is hoped the four OYBikes, which can now be rented from Reading station, will encourage more people to use an alternative to the car.

Registered users pay £10 a year to obtain release and lock codes from the company. The first 30 minutes of rental is free before a charge is incurred.

The pilot scheme will be watched with a view of rolling out more cycles across the country.

Feroze Rub, managing director of OYBike, said "This partnership is an example of what a properly integrated public transport system can do for everyone."

Andrew Saunders, from First Great Western, said the scheme gives people the freedom to explore the town once they have got to Reading on the train.

He added: "Car parking is always difficult, so cyclists have a distinct advantage in getting around town - since they can park right outside the shop they want to go into, library, swimming pool, theatre or anywhere else really."
