A four-lane motorway junction will be constructed

A £62.5m plan to ease congestion at a notorious bottleneck junction on the M4 in a Berkshire town begins next month.

Improvements to junction 11 in Reading include building a four-lane motorway junction with two road bridges around the existing junction.

Two new junctions, south of the M4, at Mereoak will also be constructed to ease traffic in the Shinfield area.

The borough council said the government was funding the upgrade, which will be completed by summer 2010.

The existing motorway junction will remain open throughout the first phase of the work in order minimise disruption, the local authority said.
